Memories of Bill

Created by Stephen 3 years ago
I knew William as Bill and he was my Det.Sgt. on the Crime Squad at Paddington Green Police Station in 1976/77, I had just over two years service then and it was the start of my CID career. Bill was always outstanding and admired hugely by us, mainly young and relatively inexperienced officers and he was someone to whom you just gravitated towards and looked up to. It really was through Bill that I became a QPR supporter and season ticket holder for many years and have such wonderful memories of those times with the whole gang who used to sit together in the South Africa Road Stand, being entertained not only by the football but by Peter and Bill’s comic running commentary, sometimes the only highlight of some dire performances and then back to the Green Man Public House in the Harrow Road. My son, also a Detective is also a QPR supporter. I left Ruislip in 2006 and now live in Swanage, Dorset where I joined the Isle of Purbeck Golf Club. I remember chatting to a guy some years ago who happened to have been a member at West Middlesex. I asked him if he knew Bill? He said “ Of course and what smashing chap he was too”. I was so proud to tell him that Bill was a former colleague and a friend. Looking back, I’ve often thought about those times with huge fondness no more so than now. My deepest sympathy to you ‘Barb‘, you may not remember me but that is how Bill always referred to you and my sincere condolences to your family.  Steve Rogers.
